Turnbuckle Radio hosts Trevor Robb and Brian Swane breakdown tonight’s action at the 2015 WWE Night of Champions PPV in Houston, Texas.
Sting vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship & John Cena vs. Seth Rollins fro the United States Championship
B: Rollins is going into Night of Champions with both belts, and coming out with both belts. Granted there will almost certainly be some funny business along the way – Rollins certainly isn’t getting two clean wins, and might not even get two wins period (loss by DQ, count-out, etc) – but by hook or crook, he’s hanging onto the titles.
Now on the off chance he does drop one of the straps, my money’s on the US belt. A Sting win is only foreseeable in a situation where he loses it right away. It’s difficult to imagine WWE putting their world championship on a 50-plus year-old who only makes occasional appearances. WINNER: ROLLINS
T: It would be something silly to have Seth Rollins be built up for all this time only to have him lose at the hands of Sting. But then again, this is the WWE we’re talking about here. Still, the smart money has to go with Rollins walking out with both belts strapped firmly to his waist. Each match is prime for tomfoolery, I expect the return of Kane will help Rollins get past Sting, or better yet, have Sheamus come in and actually help Rollins win just to cement himself as a monster heel and throw some confusion into the story. I just really don’t see Sheamus cashing in tonight, but it’s about time he starts poking his nose in the title picture.
Though it may be unlikely, I would love to see Rollins go over clean on Cena. No bullshit, no interference. Have a close match where Cena and Rollins trade blows but it’s Seth who emerges victorious. He’s a great chicken shit, but now’s the time for him to be taken more seriously. WINNER: ROLLINS
Ryback vs. Kevin Owens for the Intercontinental Championship
B: I’m torn on this one. Is it Kevin Owens’ time to be elevated to championship-level? This is his second run at a title in the few months he’s been on the main roster. WWE didn’t seem to feel he was ready this summer when Cena fended off Owens’ challenges for the US title, but that was Cena and this is Ryback. Still, I’m going to guess Ryback goes over, only because I’m predicting so many other heel wins at NOC. WINNER: RYBACK
T: Kevin Owens is my boy, so I’m a bit biased here. Ryback has seemingly only defended his IC belt against the Miz and the Big Show as of late so it’s great to have him step away from that and work a new angle. Owens secured himself a clean win over Cesaro at Summerslam, so he’s on a bit of a roll right now. Ryback, for all his impressive physical prowess, is just not that intriguing of a character. Would love to see some more of Owens and Cesaro, or bring Orton down to the IC belt picture, much like Cena and the US belt, and have Orton and Owens go at it. Either way, it’s all Owens baby! WINNER: KEVIN OWENS
Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte for the WWE Divas Championship
B: All signs point to Nikki’s world crashing and burning around her, as evidenced in the “Bellabration” angle on Smackdown. She got the win on Raw to break AJ’s record for the longest Divas title run, which you can bet the grudge-holding WWE has been planning from the minute AJ left the company. This title run long ago ran its course, and now that the record is taken care of, the belt’s coming off Nikki. WINNER: CHARLOTTE
T: Say it with me everyone, Nikki Bella is the longest reigning WWE Divas Champion in company history. Riiiiiiight. Anywho, part of me thinks it would be hilarious to have Nikki go over again. Just to troll everyone, and then have her drop it on RAW. WINNER: NIKKI BELLA
Dean Ambrose/Roman Reigns/mystery partner vs. The Wyatt Family
B: Forget who wins this match, what intrigues me is who Ambrose and Reigns’ partner will be. My partner in crime Trevor has some good theories on this, so I’ll leave that to him. This match will be the Strowman Show, as you can bet the big man is going to be giving plenty of opportunity to shine. As for the outcome, flip a coin. Could “Jobber to the Stars” Bray Wyatt actually get a win? I’ll go with an all-out brawl that results in a no decision. WINNER: NO DECISION
T: For me, this has match of the night written all over it. The build between Wyatt and Reigns has been great and the subsequent additions of Ambrose, Harper and Strowman have really helped strengthen this rivalry. And to add a little intrigue to it, we all get to kick on tires on who the mystery opponent is. Is it Erik Rowan? Is it Orton? Kane? Or could it be another NXT call-up like Samoa Joe or Baron Corbin? Either way, the added intrigue helps to add hype to what will already be an entertaining match. One that will be utterly dominated by Braun Strowman and the Wyatts! WINNER: WYATT FAMILY
Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev
B: Just when this couldn’t get any worse, now Ziggler seems to be trying to score with Summer? To quote The Rock, this angle is “10 pounds of monkey crap in a five pound bag.” Ziggler wins. And I officially will not give a crap. WINNER: ZIGGLER
T: WWE doing its best to run TMZ-style promos hyping up the “steamy controversy” between Dolph and Summer. Did they or didn’t they? Who came on to who? Is Summer telling truth? Is Dolph circumcised? Who fucking cares. WINNER: ZIGGLER
New Day vs Dudley Boyz for the World Tag Team Championships
B: Say it with me now: Save the tables! The best thing going in the WWE right, the New Day, damn well better hang on to their titles. It’s a nice bit of nostalgia for their fans to have them back, but the Dudleys have now business winning the belts. New Day will prevail in classic sneaky New Day fashion. WINNER: NEW DAY
T: Man oh man, I love me some New Day. These guys are money. Beauties, all of them. But here’s hoping these two teams become part of something huge here, which all starts Sunday. Would love to see the Dudley’s go over at Night of Champions, but it’s not happening. Not yet, at least. Much like Brian, I expect some horseplay on behalf of Xavier Woods to hep get the Dew Day the W. However, here’s hoping this leads to a rematch for a tables match at Hell in a Cell. Who knows, maybe this could all lead to a Hardy Boyz return and a TLC match at Wrestlemania between the three with New Day taking the spot of Edge and Christian. I’m clearly getting ahead of myself here… WINNER: NEW DAY
Lucha Dragons and Neville vs. Stardust and the Ascension
B: What’s this? It appears WWE has actually found a role for the Ascension, and by gawd, the formed faction with Cody Dust actually works. Their push continues here. WINNER: STARDUST AND THE ASCENSION
T: I’m so pleased the WWE has finally found something for the Ascension to do, and this role with Stardust fits like a glove. My only wish is they drop the black and red look – a distinct look that still links them to Legion of Doom/Demolition – and start to change up their colour schemes much like Stardust does on a weekly basis. I’d love to see them come on top Sunday, but this is WWE we’re talking about. WINNER: LUCHA DRAGONS AND NEVILLE
